Dr Morelos is the director and manages Hydrocarbon Systems Ltd. office in London, UK.
Dr Morelos received a Bachelor degree from the Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN) and a Doctorate in geosciences from the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) in 1980 and 1996, respectively.
Thesis: Geochemical study of the prospect Halo in Oaxaca, Mexico (IPN, 1983)
Dissertation: Geochemistry of oils and source rocks from the Tampico-Misantla basin, Mexico (UTD, 1996).
Dr Morelos started his career as a geologist working for Geophysical Services Inc. (GSI) in the surface geochemical department in Mexico, USA, and Colombia. Dr Morelos since then has worked extensively in basin evaluations, regional, plays and prospect studies in most of the basins in Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia and particularly in the Gulf of Mexico while working for Geochemical and Environmental Research Group (GERG), Mobil Co, Union of California (UNOCAL), Humble Geochemical services and ExxonMobil. Furthermore, Dr Morelos has been a consultant in numerous projects for PDVSA and PEMEX and other oil companies. In addition to conventional resources, Dr Morelos has contributed to unconventional resource assessments while working with Upstream Research Center (EM) in Houston, Texas and ExxonMobil International in Leatherhead UK.
In 2014, Dr. Morelos separated from ExxonMobil International and established the consulting company Hydrocarbon Systems, Ltd.
Dr Morelos is member of the AAPG, PESGB, and The Geological Society.
Ernesto Miranda Canseco, Msc

Ernesto Miranda Canseco is Technical Director of Hydrocarbon Systems Ltd in our office in Mexico
Miranda Canseco, an expert in the petroleum geology of Mexico, received a bachelor degree in geology from the Instituto Politecnico Nacional (IPN) and a master degree in sciences from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico (UNAM) in 1980 and 1991, respectively.
Miranda Canseco joined Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) in 1980 working as subsurface geologist and surface geology party manager. Subsequent positions included project leader for play definition for PEMEX Southern region; coordinator of regional and petroleum systems studies; and manager of tectonic and structural geology department.
Miranda Canseco has been involved in numerous projects in geology, petroleum exploration and academia and has been coauthor of multiple internal and consortia reports for PEMEX including: revitalization of mature oil fields; evaluation of frontier basins such as Yucatan Platform, Sierra de Chiapas and Tehuantepec Basins; Tectonic/stratigraphic and petroleum system analysis of the great Gulf of Mexico.
Miranda Canseco has published numerous national and international reports related to Mexico’s oil and gas industry and contributed to PEMEX manuals on basin analysis.
Miranda Canseco retired from PEMEX in 2013 to become an independent consultant and instructor for IPN and CIATEQ and joined HYSY in 2015.
